About

The Division of Medical Ethics is committed to providing the highest quality in ethics consultation by promoting collaboration of ethics resources and supporting the ethical foundation of quality health care. Through community commitment, our goal is to improve the recognition of personal values in healthcare decision making.

Patients and families with acute issues superimposed by tragic circumstances, advanced chronic illness or increased healthcare technology, are frequently faced with complex medical decisions. The Division of Medical Ethics provides the opportunity for patients and their families to address the ethical issues involved in their care. The Division’s trained, experienced clinical ethicists are committed to providing empathetic quality care to all patients who are confronted by clinical dilemmas that impact their care.

The Department of Medicine created the Division of Medical Ethics in 2011 to build upon Northwell Health’s successful track record and commitment to incorporate bioethics into clinical practice and physician education. We are committed to educating the next generation of physicians, nurses, social workers, lawyers, clergy and myriad health professionals through our fellowship program, while contributing to research that will improve care transitions in health delivery.
