Residency in Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital, North Shore University Hospital & Long Island Jewish Medical Center (NS/LIJ)

Lenox Hill Hospital and the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital (MEETH) are affiliate training sites of the otolaryngology residency program sponsored by the New York University (NYU) Langone Medical Center. Five residents from the NYU program rotate at Lenox Hill and MEETH at a time.

The Otolaryngology (Head and Neck) Surgery Department offers comprehensive exposure to the ever-expanding scope of modern practice. The specialty areas in which residents participate in medical and surgical care include general otolaryngology, head and neck oncology, facial plastics and reconstruction, pediatric otolaryngology, rhinology, laryngology, otology and neuro-otology.

Residents are given increasing responsibilities commensurate with their abilities and level of training. Careful supervision and instruction by the enthusiastic attending staff gives residents the benefit of the experience, knowledge and technical expertise of our practicing staff of otolaryngologists-head and neck surgeons.

Educational opportunities include didactic lectures, teaching sessions and patient rounds, grand round, journal club and mortality/morbidity reviews. Interdepartmental conferences and communications with other disciplines, such as neurosurgery, medicine, oncology, radiology and pathology, contribute to knowledge and enhance patient care. Residents also participate in conferences and meetings at NYU and in the metro area, as well as nationally. Research conducted at MEETH is often presented to local and national audiences and published in peer-reviewed journals.

The Otolaryngology attending physicians enjoy teaching and are committed to resident education. In addition, they strive for excellent patient care and quick response to changes within their own and associated fields of medicine. Surgical advances and technological innovations help make otolaryngology an exciting and complex surgical specialty in which residents enjoy training at MEETH.
