Residency in Psychiatry at Staten Island University Hospital

Welcome! We are pleased that you are interested in learning more about the educational programs and experiences we offer to our psychiatry residents. You are making an important choice—your residency program will influence the kind of psychiatrist you become and give you many of the tools you will use throughout your career.

Our educational program is focused on helping you develop the skills necessary to be a lifelong learner. Whether you choose an academic career, a hospital- or office-based practice or a path that combines all of these elements, we believe your training should prepare you to remain curious and confident, adaptable and engaged.

In the decades ahead, psychiatry is likely to face both challenges and transformative opportunities. It will be increasingly important for psychiatrists to be comfortable with the medical aspects of psychiatric care and the impact of psychiatric morbidity on acute and chronic medical illnesses, such as heart disease, diabetes mellitus and oncologic disorders, among others.

Our training program will equip you to cope with these demands confidently. In addition, our emphasis on developing a holistic understanding of psychiatric conditions and symptoms, and our focus on appreciating and addressing the health needs of the people of Staten Island, will prepare you to be a leader in health care and a force for constructive change in your communities.

We address the many mental health needs of the communities we serve by providing exceptional psychological services and behavioral health resources.
