Residency in Ophthalmology at Northwell Health
The Department of Ophthalmology at Northwell Health offers a three-year residency program to recent medical school graduates. With a diverse patient population, internationally recognized faculty, and state-of-the-art equipment, we offer our residents exceptional opportunities to become highly skilled medical and surgical ophthalmologists.
The residency program clinics are based at two facilities – The Northwell Health Eye Center in Great Neck, NY, and the Queens Hospital Center. There are additional rotations and services provided at North Shore University Hospital, Syosset Hospital, Long Island Jewish Medical Center, and the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital. Through these rotations, residents experience inpatient and outpatient ophthalmology, ophthalmic pathology and ophthalmic surgery. At these facilities' residents will have the opportunity to participate in all adult ophthalmic general and subspecialty care, pediatric eye care, emergency department eye trauma, and ophthalmic and oculoplastic surgery.
The department is run by 11 full-time ophthalmologists with more than 100 actively engaged voluntary staff in all subspecialties. Many faculty members are active in clinical research. The department also hosts a regularly scheduled conference program, commonly known as grand rounds, that includes lectures from nationally and internationally recognized ophthalmologists from outside the health system.
