Residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at Southside and Huntington Hospitals
Thank you for your interest in our residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Northwell Health’s Southside and Huntington Hospitals. Northwell Health is committed to the continued growth of our general OB/GYN and subspecialty services in the Eastern region, which includes all of Suffolk County and the eastern parts of Nassau County (approximately 1.5 million Long Islanders).
Our mission is to provide the very best in care for women in our region and the development of our Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited residency is a vital step toward accomplishing that goal.
The hospital campuses at Southside and Huntington have a long tradition of providing state-of-the-art OB/GYN care and account for over 4,500 deliveries annually. Both hospitals feature a robust OB/GYN subspecialty team including Gynecologic Oncology, Urogynecology, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology, and Infertility and Genetics.
Southside Hospital has rapidly developed into a tertiary care hospital with a full complement of advanced tertiary care services and a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)-approved helipad to accept transfers from other hospitals. Our open heart surgery and women’s cancer programs are both high volume services and the hospital offers a full complement of subspecialty services to support those advanced programs. For example, Southside features a brand-new Emergency Department, a highly sophisticated Surgical Intensive Care Unit, a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and other advanced support services. The Department accepts obstetrical and gynecological transfers from numerous other facilities and takes care of complex obstetrical and gynecological cases. The facility is a Center for Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery and a Center of Excellence for Robotic Surgery.
Huntington Hospital has enjoyed a highly respected Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. In particular, Huntington features a very successful robotic surgery program and recently celebrated completing 1,000 robotic surgeries (the majority of which were gynecological). The gynecological surgeons at Huntington Hospital are nationally recognized as leaders in their field and have a very busy minimally invasive, single incision, and open surgical practice. In fact, the gynecological expertise at Huntington Hospital has led many other residencies to request sending residents there to learn from our team. In addition to their busy general OB/GYN physicians, the hospital also has a very successful midwifery program.
I’m very excited about how much our campuses have to offer OB/GYN resident physicians during their training. The expertise and backgrounds of our physician and nursing staffs, the diversity and complexity of the cases that we take care of, and the overall positive energy that is palpable toward welcoming our residents will definitely make our program second to none.
