Stephen R. Barone, MD, is the general pediatrics residency program director and vice chair of graduate medical education at Cohen Children’s Medical Center. He is an associate professor of pediatrics at the Zucker School of Medicine. Dr. Barone also serves as an associate attending, specializing in infectious disease at the children’s hospital.

A graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Medicine, Dr. Barone has been in practice for 30 years. While in medical school he was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He received his post-graduate training in general pediatrics and pediatric infectious disease at North Shore University Hospital. He served as chief resident during his residency. Dr. Barone is board certified in pediatric infectious disease and general pediatrics.

During his career, he has been awarded many honors including several “Best Doctors in America: Northeast Region” awards and the Outstanding Teaching Award from Northwell Health.

In addition to his long history in the clinical setting, Dr. Barone has held academic appointments Cornell University Medical College, New York University School of Medicine and the Zucker School of Medicine since 1990.

He is a member of a number of professional societies including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Long Island Infectious Disease Society and the Infectious Disease Society of America. He serves as a journal reviewer for the Journal of Pediatrics, the journal Pediatrics, and the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine.
