Application process

Our residents play an integral role in the care that is provided to our patients. To ensure they are receiving the best quality of care possible, we have basic requirements for entry to the program. In general, we take into account all aspects of an application to determine how an applicant may add to the experiences of the program, instead of focusing on single factors. However, the applicants must provide the following items to be considered for this program.

  • Common application form
  • Curriculum vitae
  • USMLE step 1 and step 2 with average score of 210 or higher
  • COMLEX transcript (passing score on Step 3 if H1 VISA required)
  • Medical school transcript
  • Graduated medical school within last five years
  • Personal statement
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation that are no more than six (6) months old from the date of application
  • ECFMG Status Report, if applicable

The family medicine residency program at Glen Cove Hospital participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Those interested in applying should do so through the electronic residency application service (ERAS). The program code is 1446120C0. Applications must be submitted no later than Dec. 31.

Interviewing information

Completed applications with all required documents are reviewed between September and January. We extend invitations to interview with approximately 60 applicants each year. Interview invitations are sent via email. The interview dates are traditionally between October and January.

When applicants visit Glen Cove Hospital for an interview, they have an opportunity to tour the hospital, meet with residents, and participate in individual interviews with 3 to 4 faculty members. Applicants are responsible for arranging their own transportation to our site as well as accommodations. However, our office staff is often helpful in making recommendations in this regard. The closest airports are New York LGA, JFK, and ISP. Lunch is provided during the one day interview process. We try to accommodate scheduling needs in terms of scheduled start and end times as the interview day generally requires about 5 hours.
