Fellowship in Surgical Pathology at Lenox Hill Hospital
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital offers a one-year ACGME-accredited fellowship geared toward advanced training and experience in general surgical pathology with an emphasis on oncologic pathology. The department analyzes over 24,000 surgical specimens, 12,500 cytopathology specimens, and more than 1,800 frozen sections annually covering a wide variety of material from various subspecialties, including breast, thoracic, genitourinary, gynecologic, gastrointestinal, head and neck pathology, hematopathology, and neuropathology.
The fellow will be responsible for complete work-up of surgical, frozen section and consultation cases, resident and medical student teaching, gross room supervision, participation in quality assurance activities, and execution of a research project culminating in submission of a manuscript for publication in a peer reviewed journal. Support is provided for presentation of research projects at national meetings. Rotations on frozen section are integrated into the fellow’s rotation schedule. The fellow is expected to participate in and present at intradepartmental and interdepartmental conferences, tumor boards, resident lectures, and journal clubs. Within the department opportunities exist for additional experience in hematopathology, neuropathology, and cytopathology. A one-month elective rotation in a selected subspecialty is available with approval by the program director.
