Fellowship in Neuroradiology at North Shore University Hospital & Long Island Jewish Medical Center (NS/LIJ)

The Department of Diagnostic Radiology at Northwell Health offers a one-year ACGME-accredited Fellowship in Neuroradiology at North Shore University Hospital & Long Island Jewish Medical Center (NS/LIJ). This program provides clinical and research training in a closely supervised setting. The department is equipped with state-of-the-art technology in our inpatient and outpatient facilities. Recent acquisitions include a 3T magnet, an open MRI with ambient technology, a 64-slice multi-detector CT and PET/CT, and new interventional and neuro-interventional suites.

The program rotates through two main tertiary hospitals – North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center, which are located approximately 2 miles apart, 17 miles east of New York City on the North Shore of Long Island. The department spans 10 hospitals, five outpatient centers and three additional hospital affiliations. Approximately 1.2 million examinations are performed annually within the health system. We have 51 full- and part-time instructional faculty positions between the North Shore and LIJ campuses.

The Fellowship in Neuroradiology at NS/LIJ is 12 months long and consists of three months of CT, four months of MR, three months of procedures, two weeks of interventional neuroradiology with additional added time if desired or needed, one month of neurosonography (including vascular songography) and two weeks of PET/CT.


The Long Island Jewish Medical Center has two General Electric 1.5 Tesla magnetic resonance scanners, three GE helical CT scanners, two digital subtraction angiography suites, radiographic-fluoroscopic rooms with tilt tables, ultrasound equipment with Doppler capability and digital radiographic equipment. A GE PACs system is in place. There is a Neuroradiology suite where CT and MRI are interpreted; it has a 3D workstation. 

There are specifically trained nurses and technologists with expertise in performing invasive procedures. Physiological monitoring is available in both of the angiography suites and crash carts are available for emergency cardiac life support and ventilation. 

Each neuroradiologist has their own office and maintains their own teaching file. The neuroradiology fellow shares an office with the radiology residents.


Many of our faculty members hold leadership positions in local and national professional societies including NYRRS, RSNA and ACR. Additionally, faculty holds various positions within the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, including Associate Dean of Admissions, Promotions Committee members, and Anatomy and structured lab facilitators.

Trainees must have completed an ACGME-accredited diagnostic radiology residency training program and be either licensed in New York state or eligible for a license.
