About us

This is a one year fellowship in Gastrointestinal, Pancreatic and Hepatobiliary Pathology. The objective of this fellowship is to provide comprehensive and rigorous diagnostic training that will enable the graduate to practice independent, competent sign out of gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgical pathology cases. The fellow will have the opportunity to participate in the teaching programs at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell as well as in clinical research. Fellow participation and presentation of original scholarship at regional and national meetings is encouraged.

The fellows will be responsible for complete work-up of surgical, frozen section and consultation cases, resident teaching, gross room supervision, participation in quality assurance and execution of a research project culminating in a publication in a peer reviewed journal. The fellows will attend and present at intradepartmental and interdepartmental conferences, tumor boards and teaching conferences.

The department accessions more than 27,000 GI pathology cases a year (North Shore University Hospital, Long Island Jewish Hospital and Core Laboratories).

Application process

Interested candidates should submit their applications by October 1st, two years prior to the year of fellowship for which they are applying (for example, October 1st, 2019 for a start date of July 1st, 2021).

Candidates must be board eligible or board certified in anatomic pathology (AP) or anatomic pathology/clinical pathology (AP/CP) by the American Board of Pathology. Individuals accepted in to the program must obtain a New York state medical license prior to the program start date on July 1.
