Fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at Lenox Hill Hospital

The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at Northwell Health offers 12 three-year fellowship positions in cardiovascular disease. The program involves experience and patient care on: the Cardiology Consultation Service, the Coronary Care Unit, the Invasive Cardiology Laboratory, the Noninvasive Cardiology Laboratory (which includes transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, exercise testing, and Holter monitoring), and the Electrophysiology Laboratory.

In addition to the clinical services, fellows spend six months on a dedicated research rotation.

The clinical experience is supplemented by a number of weekly conferences, including rounds with the Director of Service, cardiology grand rounds, echocardiography conference, hemodynamics conference, electrophysiology conference, journal club, and didactic seminars.

Specific duties of the cardiology fellows include:

  • Invasive procedures in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU)
  • Organization of rounds in the CCU
  • Student and house staff instruction on the CCU and the Consultation Service
  • Cardiac consultations for the medical and surgical services
  • Performance and interpretation of echocardiograms, Doppler echocardiograms, and exercise stress tests
  • Interpretation of standard and ambulatory electrocardiograms
  • Participation in the outpatient cardiology clinic
  • Preparation of articles for cardiology journal club
  • Presentation of cases at conferences
  • Assisting in the cardiac catheterization laboratory, and interpretation of angiographic and hemodynamic data
  • Participation in the electrophysiology laboratory
  • Participation in research projects and academic inquiry
  • Participation in the nuclear cardiology laboratory
