CAST Accredited Neurocritical Care Fellowship

Accredited by the Committee of Advanced Subspecialty Training, the Department of Neurosurgery at North Shore University Hospital offers a one year fellowship under the direction of Jamie Ullman, MD, program director.  The Neurocritical Care Fellowship has been designed to educate neurosurgical fellows in the care of complex and diverse critically ill patients with primary or secondary neurologic injury, with a strong focus on neurotrauma. Clinical experience will be gained at North Shore University Hospital and at Cohen Children’s Medical Center in the pediatric and neonatal intensive care units. The program additionally offers residents the opportunity to apply for in-folded fellowship training.

The majority of clinical experience will be at North Shore University Hospital with additional training at Cohen Children’s Medical Center, located approximately 2 miles from North Shore University Hospital, in the pediatric and neonatal intensive care units. Both hospitals within the Northwell Health system offer a full range of medical, surgical and emergency services, and have a wide variety of approved training programs in medicine and surgery, including subspecialties. North Shore University Hospital is a designated regional Level 1 Trauma Center, and Cohen Children’s Medical Center is a designated Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, receiving transfers from many surrounding institutions.
