Physician Leadership Institute
The Physician Leadership Institute (PLI) was created to address the changing demands faced by providers in an evolving healthcare industry. With medical technology advancing at an accelerating pace, regulations continuing to shift and patient-centered, collaborative care models coming to the fore, providers must be nimble; leaders must possess clinical expertise and the ability to guide, motivate, react and create change.
As our organization moves into the future, physicians will increasingly need to participate in leadership decisions that help sustain growth and success. The PLI was launched to help providers do just that and offers a wide array of programs for physician leaders at all levels of the organization. By helping to recruit, develop and retain leaders, PLI plays an important role in ensuring that Northwell Health continues to meet its long-standing goals:
- Providing high-quality clinical care
- Educating current and future healthcare professionals
- Advancing the field of medicine through research and innovation
- Promoting education and awareness in our patient population
- Fostering growth and development in our communities
Physician Leadership Development Program
Making the transition from accomplished physician to physician leader takes more than strong clinical skills—it requires a fundamental shift in thinking. This program provides top-performing physicians with the skills to excel in the clinical realm and lead the transformation of care.
Physician Administrative Fellowship Program
This one-year program is designed to empower young physicians to take on administrative leadership roles within the health system while meeting the organization’s mission of providing outstanding patient care within our community.
Chief Resident Education Program
The chief resident role is a physician’s first opportunity for leadership in the clinical setting. Combining classroom activities with experiential learning, the Chief Resident Education Program is designed to provide a foundational set of skills for leading, managing and mentoring.
Our classes and seminars are available to Northwell Health employees and members of the community. To register, employees should access iLearn through Northwell's Intranet. Community members can register here.
