Overview

The chief resident role is a physician’s first opportunity for leadership in the clinical setting. Selected for their exceptional clinical and leadership skills, chief residents support the key missions of their residency program and provide direction for their residents, functioning as key mentors and advocates.

The Chief Resident Education Program is designed to provide a foundational set of skills for leading, managing and mentoring. The program starts with a full-day session that combines classroom activities with leadership-related simulations in the Clinical Skills Lab. Chief residents also have the opportunity to attend three follow-up sessions during the year, where they can hone specific skills helpful in conflict resolution, cognitive overload and role transition.
